Oslo Afro Arts Youth
Every year Oslo Afro Arts Festival arrange free activities for youth, children and families as part of our festival. We want to create spaces and events at Grønland in collaboration with the people living there and based on their wishes on how to use the area. Safe, welcoming events where youth, children and families together can experience art and be creative together.
Together with Forandringshuset Grønland, we invite a group of young people to create their own festival! Through workshops with experienced festival arrangers the youth learn booking, stage management, concert technique, promotion and everything they need to know in order to create a festival. Entrance to he festival is free, and the youth themselves decide who they want to have on stage and how it all should look. in 2019 the two-day festival became so popular that there were lines down the street outside Forandringshuset.
The Backyard Party at Intercultural Museum have become one of the most popular events during Oslo Afro Arts Festival. The event consist of free concerts, a market with food, clothes and artifacts and lots of activities for children. Facepainting, dance workshops, drum workshop, arts and painting and games for children – everything free for all to join.
On the Sunday of the festival week we collaborate with Cafeteatret, expanding their concept «Barnas Dag» to become «Barnas Afrikadag». This is a half-day event with specific activities for children to participate in. Earlier workshops have been mask making with Munch-museet and drum workshop with Sidiki Camara.
